Theme Day – Statues: To working women of the world!

This is a statue of Marija Jurić Zagorka, Croatian writer and journalist who was born in 1873. and lived till 1957. She was the first Croatian female journalist at a time when it was not appropriate for a woman to be in that kind of job and even had to write under a male pseudonym. So, I thought it would be nice to dedicate this post on a Labour Day to her because she was a true fighter for human rights and the rights of workers.

I wish you all happy Labour Day and a nice weekend!

  1. Nice pick for the theme day. The Swedish equivalent to Zagorka was a woman called Barbro Alving.

  2. hey, fantastic, We were in zagreb this summer and i remember this statue (and the clock behind it right?).

  3. I can't believe we picked the same statue! :-D

  4. a great choice for this theme

  5. @ Steffe: Thanks for the info! Barbaro seems like a very interesting woman! :)
@ Ineke: yes, you are right, it' a sun clock at the back! :)
@ Mirela: :D yes, funny! I wonder what the chances were that we'll pick the same statue. But Zagorka totally deserves it!
@ everybody else: Thank you for compliments and comments! You are so sweet! :)
